Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) travel awards

DEI Travel Award support and recognize researchers from racial, ethnic, and disability groups that have been historically under-represented in scientific work related to fNIRS.

About the Award

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Travel Award aims to recognize and support researchers from demographic groups that have been historically under-represented in scientific work related to fNIRS in their home country or internationally. This award also aims to support research with a focus on culturally diverse and under-represented minority populations.

Awardees of the DEI Travel Award will receive a stipend to cover the registration fee for SfNIRS 2024, as well as travel expenses to attend SfNIRS 2024 in-person.

Awardees will be selected and notified in mid-July, before conference registration closes. Awardees are selected by the SfNIRS DEI committee.

Terms of the Award

  • The candidate must be a member of the Society for fNIRS
  • The candidate must have submitted at least one abstract to SfNIRS 2024 as the presenting author.
  • The candidate should plan to present their work in-person at SfNIRS 2024.
  • Under-represented candidates in the biomedical, engineering, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences are encouraged to apply. Including but not limited to the following:
    • Individuals from under-represented racial and ethnic groups
    • Individuals from low income, low-middle income, and upper-middle income countries identified by the World Bank
    • Women and gender diverse individuals
    • Individuals with disabilities
    • Individuals who identify with any other marginalized groups pertaining to under-representation in SfNIRS that are not listed here are also welcome to apply.

Application

Applications must contain the following:

  • One-page cover letter that includes a statement about the candidate’s eligibility for the award, and a statement about whether the candidate has any other travel awards/forms of financial support to attend fNIRS 2024;
  • Curriculum vitae demonstrating the candidate’s accomplishments;
  • Copy of the candidate’s submitted abstract for SfNIRS 2024;
  • Letter of support (optional).

Applications with an incomplete package will not be considered.
