Welcome to Birmingham

About the city

Birmingham is UK’s second largest city only after London and it is among the top largest cities across Europe. Birmingham has a population of 1.1 million people and its metropolitan area is 4.3 million (11th largest of Europe according to Eurostat 2020).

About the University

The conference venue will be the University of Birmingham (UoB) main campus in Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK. The UoB is a public research university established in 1900. The University is part of the prestigious Russell Group and it is consistently ranked among the top 100 universities world-wide. The University has two campuses: the original campus in the city of Birmingham (UK) and a brand-new campus in the city of Dubai (AUE). The University is one of the largest in the UK with over 35,000 students including over 12,000 postgraduates, and over 5000 faculty.

The main campus in Edgbaston, where the conference will be held, occupies a site some 4.8km south-west of Birmingham city centre. In recent years the campus is undergoing substantial development including the opening of the Green Heart, the new Main Library and teaching centre, and the improvements on its own train station.

The Edgbaston campus is located in a conservation area of Birmingham, and it is here that the area’s most prized properties are situated, making it one of the most expensive postcodes outside of London.
